How to repair Flexretainer?

Hi, my flex retainer popped out. When I tried to tighten it again with an Allen key, it cut it. 

-can I use a normal string to replace it or is the one on the parts website special?

-how do I make sure to set it to the correct height for the correct break angle?

Yes a string will do the job
For the distance look at the other strings, they are all set identical.
