I am playing around with the optimal pickups height of my 1996 Vigier Excess bass. When I looked under the pickguard I noticed that both Benedetti pickups are slightly different; the neck pickup has a sort of metal toothed strip embedded in the epoxy, the bridge pickup does not have this strip. Are they both really different? The bridge pickup is somewhat lower adjusted to the strings compared to the neck pickup, but the volume is certainly not lower because of this. Is the bridge pickup "hotter" e.g. more powerfull than the neck pickup?
Is there a "factory height " setting for the pickups? does it make a difference in sound, low or high?

Thanks for your reply!
But ehhm, concerning this data, are you sure this is right?
I alway understood that the bridge pickup should be closer to the strings, compared to the neck pickup.
Has to do with the amound of movement of the string.
Bridge pickup : 3,5mm low (top) / 2.5mm high (bottom) Neck pickup : 2,5mm low (top) / 1.5mm high (bottom)
Shouldn`t this be:
Neck pickup : 3,5mm low (top) / 2.5mm high (bottom) Bridge pickup : 2,5mm low (top) / 1.5mm high (bottom)
Or am I wrong?
