Hi all,
I have the opportunity to purchase a used Supra 7, with the serial number 010318.
Could somebody please tell me when this guitar was made and whether it has the needle bearing system on the tremolo?
If I should need to get any parts for it, are they all available?
Thanks, and I hope I will soon be a member of the Vigier family!
Andy

A follow up question: If this guitar has a knife edge tremolo system that gets worn out, can I substitute a needle bearing tremolo in? What would it cost to do such a thing?
Thanks again.
Andy.

Hi Andy and welcome to the Vigier family! The year of manufacture can be found by downloading the chart on the right hand menu of the main page. For the serial number I would say it has knife edges - it is very easy to tell by looking at the system - http://www.vigierguitars.com/html/Description_US/Guitars/Tremolo2017.html - the image shows the old knife edge tremolo system. It is not possible to fit the new needle bearing system to a knife edge equipped tremolo without extensive luthier and re-routing work. Do not let this put you off an older model Vigier as they are all beautiful hand-crafted instruments of the highest degree.

Thanks for your reply Ben.
Is it possible to get a new bridge if the knife edge's are worn out? Or are they out of stock now? Would I have to get a Wilkinson or something like that? Who made your knife edge bridges originally?
Thanks,
Andy

Just stopping back to update. Unfortunately the guy who was going to sell me the Supra 7 let me down - he swapped it for a bass with another guy without even telling me! I had already organised the shipping.
It was the only Vigier I've ever seen in Australia , plus it was a 7, and it was at a price I could afford (Only $1100) as I am on an injury pension so my income is very limited at the moment. I doubt I'll see another one here for a long time so it looks like I won't be able to join the Vigier family after all. Very disappointing. Guess it's back to my Ibanez...
Thanks for your kind offers of help, Ben.
Regards,
Andy

I will keep searching. I really had my heart set on joining the Vigier family. I like everything about your concept of guitars. It's just a pity that I am on a forced low-income, otherwise I would just order a brand new one. I will keep my eye out on the Buy and Sell forum and on eBay. If anybody ever wants to sell a Supra 7 for not too much money, let me know!
Cheers,
Andy
