Hi!I'm having difficulities seeing differences between a lot of the guitar models. What are the differences between i.e. the Excalibur Special and the Excalibur Ultra? I live in Norway and Vigiers are rare here, so I cannot just go to a shop and try which one I'd perfer. It would be a lot easier to chose what guitar is right for me if there was a discriptive text about each guitar.Emil.

Hi Emil,           If you look at the full spec for the guitars this should list every detail and difference. For the Excalibur's the common factors; body shape and neck profile, scale length (25.6) and fret number (24) .The signature models have subtle differences, notably the Shawn Lane Signature guitars that have a completely flat radius and shorter scale length (24.8) and the Christophe Godin model that has a much 'fatter' neck. Excluding the artist models, here are the main differences between the Excalibur's; Indus - 2011 trem or Fixed bridge, HH pickup configuration, Alder body, warm sound, lowest output of the Excalibur series. Finished only in Textured Black / White Kaos - 2011 trem, HH pickup configuration, pickups loaded directly into body, Alder body, probably the most aggressive sounding Excalibur also equipped with a killswitch. Finished only in Black Supra - 2011 trem or Fixed bridge, HSH or SSS pickup configuration, Alder body, choice of different finishes, a great workhorse Vigier - great for all styles (also available as a Surfreter) Original - Floyd Rose, HSH, HSS or SSS pickup configuration, Alder body, choice of different finishes Special - 2011 trem or Fixed bridge, HSH pickup configuration, Alder body, Maple top, choice of different finishes, a stylish Vigier that adds a flamed Maple to the Excalibur series (also available as a Surfreter) Custom - Floyd Rose, HSH, HSS or SSS pickup configuration, Alder body, Maple top, choice of different finishes, with it's stunning Maple top this is our premier floating bridge Excalibur Ultra - 2011 trem or Fixed bridge, HSH pickup configuration, pickups loaded directly into body,  Alder body, Maple top, Active pickups (EMG) and a great flamed Maple top are the stand out features of this very modern sounding Excalibur Ultra Blues - 2011 trem or Fixed bridge, HSS pickup configuration, pickups loaded directly into body,  Alder body, Maple top, The passive Ultra Blues is much more refined, adding a real vintage vibe and stunning great looks with its flamed Maple top   I hope this helps a little with your choice. As the luthiers put so much quality and time as well as perfection you can be sure whatever Excalibur (or Vigier) you choose you will be very happy when you receive her.

Great post.. It must have taken a but of time to write, so: thanks Ben! Very informative even for long time Vigier fans

iI personally think Ben is very correct, any Vigier will be amazing (I tried a Vigier Kaos in London and it was probably the nicest guitar I have ever played!!)

it is just a question of which features you would need or enjoy. Good luck in your purchase. As Ben says, you will not be disappointed, there is a reason Shawn Lane, Ron Thal and many more players love Vigier: because they are the best!
