I've been looking round various dealers websites who sell Excaliburs. (I've looking mainly at Ultra's and Specials) and one thing they don't make clear is what body wood is used:

Ultra, Mahogany Body
Fireburst Special, No mention
Green Special, Mahogany Body

Black Ultra, "Flamed Maple Body"

List pretty much everything as Alder body.....

Vigier's own website doesn't even mention what wood these models are? So I'm confused. Just what body wood is the Ultra and Special guitars made from? Mahogany? Alder? Maple?

Also, I keep seeing the 2011 tremelo mentioned on various sites. Is this a typo? I thought it was 2010?

Hi David,            For the Excalibur series guitars we use Alder wood for the bodies...it is the tops that differ; we mainly use a Maple top, but on the trans white finish it is an Ash top and also we did some very limited edition Walnut tops.    For the tremolo you did read correctly - 2011. The 2010 tremolo was the old type; we have upgraded our tremolo, utilizing a bigger arm (same size as on the Floyd Rose equipped tremolos). This was because of the bridges amazing stability a lot of players use the standard tremolo like a Floyd Rose - giving it a lot of abuse. So, as we listened to what players want and now the tremolo has the different arm, hence the new code.
