Vigier Guitars

Does anyone use their Vigier in a drop tuning? Do they handle ok? like the neck is the most solid neck ever so no worrys there, but because theres no truss rod you can't adjust the angle of the neck if you needed to for a particular gauge of strings? Is it not recommended to use these guitars in drop tuning, as they have been built for standard tuning?

I use my Vigier's with 10-52s tuned Eb, Drop Db or Drop C tuning (depending on the songs / artists I am performing with). I know some artists tune down further than this - Joe Grouse at this year's LIMS tunes dropped down to maybe 'A' or 'G' (I forget which, but it is low and handles this without any problems). The neck will handle this fine, in fact because of the stability and 10/90 system it is perfect for this and you do not have the problems sometimes associated with other guitars when drop tuning your Vigier. The only thing to note you may have to get the nut slots cut slightly wider to accommodate the thicker gauge strings - this should be a simple adjustment any competent technician can perform.

My Vigier guitars love some drop D action and they handle it great, not had one problem.

Sweet thats awesome, i might be starting a new band soon and I'm thinkin of using D standard tuning, which would be killer, glad to know they handle well, in my current band we play 7's, but i'd quite like to go back to 6 for a while, play some less heavey music and play more power metal style music, symphony-x sorta thing.

Hey I play in a few different tunings Eb to C# and A# on the 6th string and down to G# on the 6th string, which is almost as low as Meshuggah, so you can get an awsome low sound, but I only use 10-52, and they handle all the tunings fine, the guitar has no problems with that either.

is your vigier a custom shop model by the way?

Hi,   Joe's guitar was it is not 'custom shop' but designed by me, and originally meant for a different artist; Joe got this from a shop before he became an artist.Custom shop: We do not have a 'custom shop'; we operate a small factory and it would be hard for us to process lots of custom work, but we do have many extra options available which you can ?customize? your order with, different hardware, colours, etc ? (do note - any extra work on an order may increase the delivery time).

Ah I see, thats awesome, so if i wanted to i could order a Excalibur ultra with no inlays or something, (I love the blank fingerboard look)

I know Bumblefoot is using drop D for some songs.... and that seem to work very well... 

RE: Ben and joesotd - so 10-52s definitely hold up ok for tunings in the region of "Drop B" or "Drop C" for you guys???? And I'm not talking about 'standard' tuning with the low E tuned down only (some people refer to these tunings in the literal sense like that) - I'm talking about Drop C as in CGCFAd etc...I'm thinking about experimenting with lower tunings on the GV Rock. I was kinda thinking I would need to look at 12-56 strings (for example EBs "not evens") but 10-52 would be cool if they are gona hold up nice (i was thinking the treble strings could be particularly "flappy" especially if I was going to Drop B)???

Drop tunings are fine. I play in a half step down dropping the 6th string to C# A# and G# I use 10- 52's and have a bigger top nut, so the grooves take the larger strings. I've put an extra spring in the back so the bridge stays stirdy whilst going between tunings. Actions fairly low too.

So you are saying you tune to the following tunings?:C# G# C# F# A# d#A# G# C# F# A# d#G# G# C# F# A# d#I can't believe you get down to G# with a .52 and it's stable! haha thats awesome man!!!Who/what inspired the G# G# C# F# A# d# tuning? I wouldn't know were to start with that!! Is there more than one guitarist in your band??Yeah I ordered a couple of extra nuts when I bought the Vigier so I've got options!!
