Choices, choices, choices
Hi, i'm going to be turning 21 in 6 months time and as such am getting just about every family member possible to pitch in so i can get a vigier. So far i've narrowed the models down to either an Ultra Blues model, or an Excalibur Special and wanted to know what p/ups people are using in their guitars? and any recommendations for p/ups. I play stuff along the lines of Maiden, Megadeth, Testament and Dream Theater but a good clean sound for mellower passages is a must. I use cornford amps and an MI Audio Tube Zone with boss chorus and delay pedals.Ideas?

In your case, I would go for the Special. The Ultra Blues is more Vintage.Happy birthday lucky guy...
Hi Patrice, thnx for the info. with regards to the special i just wanted to know whether the following is possible:Black Hardware (Fixed Bridge) + Black Mirror Pickguard. (i'm going to go for the emerald green finish for the body and h/s)Would i be able to order a second pickguard at the same time with a differing pickup combination? I was thinking of the Seymour Duncan TB-6 (Distortion) and SH-2 (Jazz Model) with an SSL-1 in the middle. Or the TB-6 with just the SH-2 and a 5 way switch.I would of just gone for the ultra, but i prefer passive p/ups. There was a custom 1 p/up Ultra in Black Diamond with maple f/b, but the strings had cut grooves in behind the headstock so i returned it the day after i bought it. i've been looking for a guitar to replace it ever since! the best ?2,800 i'd ever spent.... for a day.
Hi James, I do agree that the Excalibur Special will be better suited to your playing needs. You can order a second pickguard with different pickup configuration - you will need to send us the pickups so we can fit them to the pickguard (will need trem sized pickups as well). I have some different pickups in my two Ultra's (these were very built especially for me a few years ago) - I have Seymour Duncan JB and Jazz * to match a Rosewood fingerboard and a Custom Custom and Pearly Gates with a Maple fingerboard. For my Indus and Retro '54 they are stock pickups (DiMarzio PAFF Classics and Virtual Vintage '54s respectively). I love the sound of all my guitars as they each have a different 'flavour'. The feel of the neck, attention to detail, overall construction, finish, electrics, woods and hardware all come together in just a perfect way it makes playing Vigier guitar's a dream. One of our artists now uses that special built Ultra you had for a day - Joe Grouse - you can hear his music here.
Vigier and Cornford....sounds like a match made in heaven! In my experience with my Special it will do all that hard/thrash metal no problem! And can still get a really wide spectrum of clean tones. Mine has DiMarzio's (ToneZone/FS1/PAF Pro). Amazing geetar!
