Benedetti and Vigier have teamed up to finally give Excess players the peace and quiet they deserve. The four string Excess Original is renown for its growling single coil pickups and robust preamp. Now those same single coils are noise-free for more freedom in high volume/high gain situations.

Hi.

What components are upgraded (the Benedetti pickups, the preamp, both?)?

Would it be possible to apply this upgrade to a Vigier Excess Original bass from 1996 (the one with pickguard)?

Would it be possible to apply this upgrade to a Vigier Arpege Series III with Benedetti pickups and Aguilar OBP-3 preamp?

Regards.

According to Patrice, you will be able to upgrade any of our older basses which feature the same pickups. The upgrade is to the pickups and you can use your old preamp - just need to turn the noise filter all the way down.

I, for one, am so excited to get my hands on these for my old Excess. That noisey * sounds soooo good, now I won't have to consider where I'm standing in relation to my amp or how much gain I have dialed in...

Hi

OK The upgrade is then for the Benedetti pickups and not the preamp.

My Vigier Excess Original (1996) and my Vigier Arpege Series III (1996) both have Benedetti pickups. I think I can then upgrade both. Right?

Do you have the pricing information for the new pickups? I am located in Barcelona (Spain). Where can I bring the basses for the upgrade?

Thank you.

Regards.

Yes to the upgrade, not sure on the pricing or where to bring it. We will do our best to provide you with that at/after the NAMM show, is that OK?

Ooh, I'm very excited by this. I love my Excess but I sometimes find the pickups to be a bit noisy when adding overdrive and some other effects. I will probably look at getting the upgrade too. Will be interested on hearing about the price for the upgrade.

Can you please post some pics of the new pickups?

I would like to know if they are similar to the ones I have. Will I have to drill the bass because the screws are in different places?

What is the price of these new pickups?

They look exactly the same and are outwardly identical. You can see 'em in the middle of this vieo:

Should I contact the Spanish distributor Letusa or can I get them directly from you?

Hi.

I have bought and received the new pickups, but they have arrived without the screws.

When trying to use the screws from the old pickups I find that the insert screws are different in size and I can not use them.

The spanish distributor Letusa told me that they asked Vigier to send the mounting screws for the new pickups, but you told them that you do not have those screws.

I find that answer very surprising because you made the basses and install the pickups... How is it possible that you do not have the screws for the pickups?

Is it possible to send me the mounting screws for this new pickups?

Regards.

I looked and all what we sent is OK, find a luthier to install them properly, then it will be fine.

Patrice, I only received the pickups but not the screws that are necessary to mount them. Can you please send me the required screws?

I have already contacted the distributor.

This is the package I received:

There are no mounting screws in the package received. The guitar repair guy tried to use the screws from the old pickups but they are not the same size and they do not fit the new pickups. Can you please send me the screws for these new pickups?

Thank you. Regards.

The guitar repair guy has drilled the holes of the new pickups and they have been finally *. However, the new pickups have 2 red cables and 1 white cable instead of only 2 red cables as the old pickups have.

This is a picture of the old pickups with only 2 red cables:

The guitar repair guy has asked me if you can please provide a diagram for the installation of these new pickups taking into account the 3 cables they have. Other pickup brands provide a diagram for the installation but I have not received any.

Thanks.

The picture at the beginning of this thread has been useful to install the pickups.

Once installed I have tested them but I do not appreciate any difference compared to the original pickups. They are as noisy as the previous pickups and some distortion when playing hard is also added (like the original pickups).

Maybe should I also change the preamp?

My other bass Vigier Arpege Series III with Aguilar OBP-3 preamp has the original Benedetti pickups and it is a lot less noisy than the Vigier Excess, and it does not distort when playing hard.

I was thinking in installing an Aguilar OBP-2TK preamp in the Vigier Excess http://www.aguilaramp.com/products_preamps_obp2.htm

Will this be a good replacement preamp for the Vigier Excess?
