Does a (worn out) zero fret de-tune the guitar to a degree?

Where there's friction, there's binding that will potentially prevent the string from returning to where we would prefer it rest.

Mr. Vigier has ironed out nearly all of the kinks in Leo Fender's original designs - But we still have to succumb to laws of physics, and re-tune now and then.

On my Shawn lane model. the D string has a sitar-like sound between the 2cd and 5th frets. Is it the nut or the zero fret??

Either the zero fret is not high enough, or too high.

You should not ear it in the amplifier...
