Hi!

The Vigiers with pickguard have 3 mounting holes for each humbucker, while normal humbuckers have only 2 (1 each side).

My understanding was that if I need to replace pickups I need to either:

a) drill 2 new holes of the treble side on the pup plate.

b) Or, if I use Dimarzios which have a very narrow plate, make a small plate with 3 holes in it and attach this small plate to the pickup with the middle screw while using the outer screws for mounting pickup.

c) Use Duncan trembuckers which have 3 holes already. But then Duncan support says the 2 outer holes are not threaded, they're just dummy holes from the manufacturing.

All clear, but then I stumbled upon this thread: http://www.vigierguitars.com/forum/message.php?id_question=3773

Here they talk about some "kit" for mounting the pickups for 3 holes that is supposedly already on the pickups and can be moved to the ned ones? Can someone clarify what this is all about?

Also, is the distance between the center of two outer holes 8mm?

Thanks!

Yeah, even if no vigier staff is around someone here must have changed pickups before and can tell us about this.

If you go back to the thread Patrice explains that if you can use the piece from the existing pickup. The other possibility is to take a small piece of metal and drill out some holes, this will also work.

Great Ben, thanks!

Just a clarification: I thought that the DiMarzio pickups mounted on the Vigier had plates specially made for Vigier with 2 holes on the treble side?

Are you saying they are really normal DiMarzio pickups with normal plates, and that Vigier makes a smaller plate attached to the pickup to fit 2 screws?

If so, that would be awesome, then I'll just move the smaller plate to the new DiMarzios.

No, it is a plate we make up by cutting and drilling into a metal plate. You should be able to use the plate on the pick-up you remove.

Great! I was confused since there's been some talk of having to drill new holes. But i understand that's the case if you put in another brand beside DiMarzio since pup plates are much wider. Replacing with DiMarzios is a piece of cake then!
